So we received a few requests for healthy recipes from some of our health-conscious and athletic readers. Since there’s been so much talk about how bad cow’s milk is for humans, we’ll share a nut milk smoothie recipe with you.
It’s half the calories, has no lactose and no cholesterol. You could make some using an automatic machine, or use your kitchen blender and stove top to cook the milk.
If you much rather use store-bought cartons for convenience, that’s okay too. This is a high-protein, delicious vegan smoothie that also has cinnamon added to it to regulate insulin levels. Plus, you get potassium from the banana, and heart-healthy fats from the LSA to keep you going throughout the morning and onto your workouts.
A Healthier Breakfast Choice
Banana-Vanilla Almond Milk Smoothie

- 1 drop of vanilla essence
- 1 tablespoon of LSA/Linseed-sunflower-almond (optional)
- 1 teaspoon of raw floral honey (optional)

Why making your own nut and soy milk is better
I make my own nut and soy milks at home because it is really healthier, fresher, and cheaper. We don’t like the watery nut and soy milks that you typically get in Asia at home, so making our own means we can make it as creamy as we like it.
You could technically get the creamier variety that are imported from Australia, but they cost anywhere from RM9-RM14.80 per carton at Tong Hing, and we’d much rather spend about RM3-4 on nuts per liter of milk because we have it with our smoothies and breakfasts on an everyday basis. Moreover, homemade nut milk has no preservatives and there’s no sucrose that can cause sugar highs and crashes.
