5-Green Vegetable Super Juice Recipe from Hong Kong
I first learned about the nutrient-rich beauty, detoxifying, blood sugar-controlling green juice while meandering in the streets of Mongkok in Hong Kong. Since then, I’ve recreated it in my kitchen using my own juicer and I must say it’s been a fantastic experience.
For one, this glass of raw, living, enzyme rich juice gives me a jolt of energy in the morning. Now that I have been having it for a few months, I find that not having it makes me feel more sluggish than if I did have it. The best time to have it is in the morning on an empty stomach, but you can also have it at other times of the day as long as you do it at least an hour before a meal for maximum nutrient absorption.
Time to make: 10 minutes
Servings: 2 glasses
- 1 medium green bell pepper
- 3 small green apples or 2 medium apples
- 1 stalk of celery
- 1/2 medium cucumber
- 2-inch bittergourd ring
Wash and cut all your vegetables and apples into a size that is suitable for your juicer. Juice, stir, and drink!
High in antioxidants, controls blood sugar, iron deficiencies, detoxifying effect, and weight loss.
The bittergourd is said to detoxify your body and also has been known in Asian naturopathy to be an excellent vegetable for the management of diabetes and high blood-sugar conditions. I drink it to balance out whatever high-GI foods that I take to counter the high insulin production.
Green Bell Peppers
According to LiveStrong.com (which takes its data from the USDA National Nutrient Database), just 1 cup of green bell peppers give you 120 mg or the equivalent of 200 percent of your daily vitamin C intake. I don’t take synthesized vitamin c unless medically required, because it doesn’t make any sense that humans have survived without them fine up until about 80 years ago.
An excellent source of Vitamin K, celery is also a low calorie food that is great for people who are trying to lose weight. It’s also packed with antioxidants.
Cucumbers are high in potassium and silicate, which is great for replacing lost electrolytes as well as being awesome for your skin health. Read the 10 health benefits of cucumbers by NaturalNews.com for more information.
Apples give you the sweetness and still keeps the calories pretty low. According to LIVESTRONG.COM, there’s only 47 calories per 100ml of apple juice, plus it if you add it as part of your well balanced diet it will help protect against diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and cancer.
