The Best Place for Students to Learn English in KK

Spoken by 1.5 billion speakers on the planet, English is undoubtedly the world’s language of choice when it comes to international communication. 375 million people speak English natively, while 200 million people are said to speak it as a second language. Another 750 million more speak it as a foreign language. So why do so many people make it a priority to have English as a language skill? The truth is, if you don’t speak good English then you simply can’t compete or survive in the area of further education, international business, and politics.

The Reality of Not Having a Good Grasp of English

Today, 80% of the world’s information on computers are stored in English, and more than half of the world’s technical and scientific periodicals are also recorded in English. Most if not all the top recognised universities run their programmes in English. In fact, proficiency in English is a requirement for entrance into university programmes in the U.K., Australia, U.S.A. and Canada.

In the article “Why English is Important,” The Star shares the fact that good grades in English are futile if students can’t speak the language fluently. The Malay Mail echoes that sentiment and goes further to share the story of a student who got an A for SPM English, but was denied entrance to a university, because she was unable to answer the interviewer’s questions in English during a face-to-face interview.

So what can you do if you don’t want that to happen to your children? Easy! You send them to get tuition at the best place to learn English in KK, IEC – International English Centre.

Unmatched Experience in English Education in Sabah

For 30 years, IEC has helped thousands of students from ages 5-19 develop all the 4 critical language skills of Speaking, Reading, Writing and Listening.

“Reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually require for learning to read.” – Marilyn Jager Adams

By using a mix of the British and Singapore syllabuses, “It has been proven and guaranteed that if students follow our programme whilst still schooling in Sabah, they will be able to handle their studies abroad in the future,” says Jasmine Leong, Executive Director of IEC.

When is the best time to start?

Scientific research confirms that the best time to start learning a new language is from birth to 7 years old. That’s why it is never too early to start building a solid English foundation for your children. IEC specializes in educating kids as young as 5 years old, in classrooms no larger than 20 kids.

Children learn better when they are enjoying themselves and IEC makes the programme fun for kids. Being in a safe and supportive social environment, where they get to meet and communicate with friends in English is what the IEC experience is all about!

The Earlier, The Better

The idea is to get a student started as early as possible. Early exposure to higher-standards make it easier for students to embrace international-level English in the future, especially if their confidence is built upon a solid foundation from an early age.

Primary Level – 7 to 9 years old

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.” – Frederick Douglass

Through IEC’s programme, students are trained not only to read and write, but to listen and speak correct English with their classmates. As you can see, students do enjoy making friends and learning English at the same time!

Qualified and Experienced Local, International Teachers

While students are seen to be enjoying themselves in the classroom, it isn’t just about fun and games. One of the unique things that set IEC apart from other tuition centres is their high standard of English education. Students learn from qualified and experienced local and foreign teachers, 60% of whom are from native English-speaking countries like the U.K., U.S.A., Australia and Canada.

Primary Level – 10 to 12 years old

“If children grew up according to early indications, we should have nothing but geniuses.
” – Goethe

Dynamic Learning Environment

Even if you’ve missed that golden age, IEC can still help prepare a student for further studies. In order to improve in English, students are encouraged to participate in discussions, which makes them practice speaking the language. The learning environment is one that is relaxed, supportive, and conversational. This style of teaching is modeled after the U.K. and Australia.

“The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.”– Sydney J. Harris
